Telecom industry adapts to new reality with more data, e-services

MOSCOW, Dec 30 (PRIME) -- The Russian telecom industry has reacted to the new pandemic reality with rising mobile Internet traffic and high demand for digital services, a trend that will persist in 2022, companies and experts told PRIME on Thursday.

“The passing year became a period of adaptation to the new conditions, in which the world found itself after 2020. In 2021, the economy started to recover…Demand for mobile data transfer, digital and content services increased, the sales of equipment and accessories in the retail chains also went up,” mobile operator MegaFon General Director Khachatur Pombukhchan said.

Mobile operator Tele2 Deputy General Director Svetlana Skvortsova said that some business segments returned in 2021, including international roaming.

“Acceleration of clients’ digital experience that we saw last year, resulted in higher demand for digital services relevant for clients’ life style. Expectedly, it translated into a significant rise of consumed traffic of data transfer,” she said.
